How I Work With PTSD

If you have a diagnosis of PTSD/C-PTSD, or symptoms without the diagnosis, I can help you move forward using the Children's Accelerated Trauma Technique.

Creative and Story-Based

This type of therapy is designed for children and young people, unlike other trauma therapies. You will have the opportunity to tell you story in a safe, supportive place before I help you 'rescript' the traumatic event into something much less scary. For example, maybe Superman comes to the rescue, or a fairy casts a magic spell? This helps your brain shift the traumatic event from 'the present' (feeling like it's still happening) into your long-term memory (it's happened in the past and now you are safe).

In Your Own Time

Some people are ready to start talking about their trauma within a few sessions, while others take longer to feel comfortable. I work at your pace, and will never ask you to talk about anything you're not ready to talk about. I'd recommend having at least 12 sessions, to make sure you're not rushed. Therapy can also be open-ended, so you can have sessions as long as you need to.

Safe and Secure

Talking about your traumatic experience(s) can be extremely hard. Part of the CATT trauma therapy technique is to make sure you feel safe and comfortable enough to work through it with me. I will spend time gently getting to know you for several sessions before we even start to consider processing and rescripting your traumatic memories. I will never ask you to share your traumatic memories if you aren't ready to.
